Question 325/60r18 power loss...should i regear?

Do i need to re-gear?????
Hey guys how are you all..I currently have the limited slip 3.55 gears and some 325/60 r18 procomp tires and ive noticed that my mpg is pretty bad 11mpg..ouch. also my power just doesnt really seem to be what it once was.im sure that having 325mm wide tires isnt helping the cause either, but do you guys think that diameter has that large of an effect? i mean the tires i have are only really about 2 inches taller then the stock ones, is that enough to where i need to regear??? If i were to regear i would go with the 4.10s. What do u guys think? how bad would my highway mileage be affected, and do u guys think it would bring my truck to life again?

thanks alot guys

Keep in mine that since you went with a 2 inch larger tire, your speedometer/odometer is off (unless you corrected it) so you are getting better mpg's than your figures show.

I am debating whether to stay with my 2.5" leveling kit and just going with 33's or lifting my truck and going with 35's. My questions is at what size tire do you need to regear? My truck is a 4x2 if that makes a difference.

It all depends on how you use your truck, but most people seem to be content with 33's and their OEM gear ratio.

So does that mean if I were to go with a 35" then I should regear? (Sorry to hijack the thread, but it just seems there are enough new threads generated daily)

What I mean is there are a lot of variables. Such as how you use your truck, and what your powertrain is. For instance, someone with a 5.4 and 4.10 gears that never tows/hauls anything my be happy with the performance with 35 inch tires while someone with a 4.6, 3.55 gears that tows may have to regear. 35's appear to be the cutoff point. Some people say the performance with OEM gears is OK while others say it sux, but no one is raving about the performance.

I have 325-60-18 and notice no lose what so ever but I have 3.73. I did pick up about 1 mile a gallon. I was expecting a bigger hit in fuel mileage.

I have 33's with 3.55 gears and the truck goes in and out of lockup more than I prefer at highway speeds. I'd much rather have 3.73's or 4.10's even with the 33" tire. I definately wouldn't do 35's without regearing to a 4.10 or 4.3 or 4.56. Its not such a big deal to re-gear a 4x2 but with a 4x4 I'd have to do two sets and that is really more pain/expense than its worth. I'll just live with my 3.55s and 33" tires.

I agree, I feel like my truck is looking real hard for gears. And when im cruising and i need to pick up the pace alittle, it seems that I can give the gas a push and there will be no increase so i push it further and fiurther untill it finally downshifts and the RPM shoot up. I dont know if this is a result of the gears not being matched up correctly with the new tires....but i just feel like my truck is pulling an anchor all the time now...i want to put the life back in it...
