I need to remove the spare tire carrier on my 98.Can it be removed from under the truck. It appears to be held captive by the frame rails?It looks like it comes out the top meaning the bed would have to be removed to get at it Also does it serve any structural purpose?This is the type of carrier where spare i hoisted via cable

I would not remove that, it is somewhat structural.
