Rotors Gone Pads Are Not

When I was installing my 2.5AS last weekend I noticed that I still had half of my front pads left but the rotors had all kind of grooves in them. I thought the pads go first then the rotors? Well in a couple of weeks I guess IM gonna replaced both pads and rotors.

I am having the same issue, 21k miles and the rotors look grooved to death and still half the pad left, Ford told me that is normal and refuses to replace the rotors.

You both have dirty pads, have the rotors turned and when you do be real light on the pedal it'll reduce the effects of that scoring.

Chances are the rotors are made from crap metal just like on GM vehicles. Probably from Mexico or Taiwan.

American vehicles just aren't American anymore. I have seen Toyotas assembled here in the U.S. that have more American made parts than some actual American made vehicles. Manufacturers get away with cheaper manufacturing prcoesses in other countries which sucks for the consumer.

Always had the same problem... would go through rotors just about every brake job. Ford only allows like .037 inches (i think, dont remember exactly)of wear before they cant be turned anymore too. I finally went with expensive aftermarket (ie. Made in USA) Rotors, and Carquest blue semi-metallic pads NOT ceramic, and I've heard that this is a good, long lasting combo. So far, I've noticed great braking (better than new), and time will tell on the dust/ longevity issue. I stay away from ceramic now, since my last set really wore down the rotors pretty quick.

Ive seen some rotors that looked like $h*t, but only took one pass on the brake lathe. It really depends on what they mic out to.

My son in law took his ford in friday and complained about shuddering when braking, they turned the rotors and replaced the calipers. He has a 2005 4.6 while I have a 2005 5.4... Did both trucks have the same rotors? I may make another try at trying to get ford to do mine.

The quality of the OEM F150 rotors has been suspect many years. IMO Ford is cutting corners on rotor quality to save a few bucks. When your originals get trashed, don't bother turning them, just upgrade to a higher quality aftermarket rotor. It will cost a little more, but hopefully you will get more miles out of them.

The rotors for the 2005-2006 are not cheap on the 2wd, Minimum of 100 plus dollars per rotor. I guess the earlier fords were cheaper. I still am trying to get Ford to pony up to fix for at the first time around. We will see.
