16x7 factory rims

I have a 99 f150 4x4 with the stock 16x7 rims. I have been running BF Goodrich 265/75/16 tires. By the way, I've put over 55K miles on these.
they are now due to be replaced.
I am wondering if I can go up to 285/75/16s on these rims.
The specs say that you need a 7.5" rim telling me that I can't do it.
I don't want the expense of changing the rims.
Has anyone else safely gone up to 285s on a 7" rim?

Paul, I feel really bad that no one answered this same question when you asked it five years ago. It only got 20 views.

Here are two threads for confimation. (JMC is a reliable source).

Yes, but they will barely fit without a lift. I'd stick with 265/75-16's on a 4x2 unless you are gonna lift it.

Thanks

Guys, Thanks for all the information. It appears that 285s have gone on successfully with stock 16x7 rims. I will give it a shot (if they will mount them for me). The last time I requested these tires, the tire shop told me they would not mount them for me unless the rims were 7.5" or better.
We'll see what they say this time.

Don't let the policy of one tire shop deter you.
Let your fingers do the walking.

I just picked up an 03 Flareside SCab bout a month ago. They came with 285/75/16's on the stock rims. I have not had any trouble with them so far...

It sure looks like allot of tire on those 16's though. Been thinking about painting the wheels black......

That's the look I want..........

I have 265/75/16 on my 4x2 now and they are not big enough. The wheel wells are not full. I am gonna go with 285 when I replace my current tires. You say you have 285 on a Supercab 4x2?

Awesome fit...

Ok, So I did put on the 285/75/16s and they do fit and look great. Not even close to rubbing. These are on a 1999 F150 4x4 Supercab with stock 16x7" rims.
Thanks for all the input guys.

pacmapora, can you post a picture? I'm thinking of doing the same tire size on stock wheels on my 03 supercab 7700pkg

thanks
