How much for a brake job on a 2004 F150
OK, this has probably been covered 20 times before, but I am new here and want up to date information.
My 2004 F150 2 wheel drive truck has 42k on it and need brakes all around. What is a fair price for a complete brake job. No turned rotors, I have had bad luck with this in the past, plus the fronts are really gone. I am not going to do this myself, but want to take it to a decent shop, and probably not the dealer. Aftermarket parts are fine as long as they are equal or better than Ford branded parts.
So, how much should it cost? Any ideas?

Over $500 in parts
Well, I checked Parts America and even though they don't carry the rear brake pads (kinda weird, huh!) the parts total will be in the neighborhood of $500.00+. So, maybe with 3-4 hours of labor, $900.00 is not all that bad? i'll try to talk them down as they are making too much on the parts. So, maybe I can get it done for $750.00 or so?
The front rotors on this model have the wheel bearing and hub in the rotor, so it is much more expensive than just a basic rotor.
If you have any other model 2004 F150, it is cheaper by a long shot. Just my luck to have the most expensive one!

Last time I was at Ford, labor was $75 an hour on light trucks. When did it go to $100? And whatever garage you go to will make money off the parts, not much you can do about it. And your right about not using inferior parts, soooooo,,,, looks like you'll pay the going price in your area.

Back in the day, like 15 years ago, I needed brakes for my old Ranger pickup so I set aside a Saturday and invested in a shop manual.
A great investment of both time and money, as I've changed the pads and/or rotors on everythingk I've owned since then.
If you think about it, you'll literally save thousands of dollars over time. Put that into a jar and buy a blower after a couple of years... I'm not too bright (especially back then) and I figured it out. Make sure you get all the parts you need, the shop manual will tell you everything that is required.
Brakes are pretty easy, very straightforward to do when you've got a shop maunal with pictures.

I would say for parts, front maybe $200, and the rear about $180. This is second most expensive pads and better of the 2 rotors. Let's even say $450 at most, it should only take 3-4 hours @$70-80 bucks an hour is still $210-320 plus tax. Definetely under $800 for parts and labour is reasonable, but $1100???? I may be wrong, this is based loosely on a 2000 4x4. Be glad you don't own a Chev 2500 HD, parts on the rear I heard was under $1500. I would imagine any Heavy duty truck would be, but the newer chev was noted.
