backspacing ?

im tryin to figure this out what is better? the higher the number means less rubbing? or vice versa? is 5.0" going to be more or less rubbing than say a 4.5? regardless i think wheel spacers could solve alot of rubbing if its not too bad. but im just tryin to figure out this backspacing stuff before gettin a set of rims for my 36x15.5x20 mickey t claws. the maxx 6 say 5.0" and moto metals say 4.75. which is better to avoid rubbing. Can sum1 please clear this up for me?

Backspacing is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel (where it bolts to the hub) to it's rear edge. The less backspacing a wheel has, the more it sticks out. The more backspacing a wheel has, the more it tucks in. Your OEM wheels are 7.5 inches wide with 5.5 inches of backspacing. On your truck, I'd try to stay with a wheel with 5.5 inches of backspacing or slightly more.

if trooks has moto metal 951s with a backspacing of 4.75, i think, and it works then the maxx 6 rims with a backspacing of 5.0 would be ok too? or actually better huh? what im basically askin is would the maxx 6's be ok with what im doing? 6" fabtech with 2.5 AS with the 36x15.50x20 claws another question is if the tires stick in more then that would possibly cause more rubbing huh? thats where im confused. sorry bro just tryin to figure this out.

Yeah, it should work since Trooks is running it. It just depends on how much you want the wheels to stick out. Usually, the wheel sticking out farther will cause rubbing problems on the outer edge of the fenders.

Here's a pic that shows how backspacing is measured.
