Joe, the Les schwab dealer I buy my tires at is a friend and a super nice guy, I get what I want. Yeah I paid a few extra bucks, but I like the security of being able to replace a tire - for free, anywhere in the country. Full road hazzard replacement and milage warrenty. Free rotation and balance check every 5k, free flat repair regardless what brand tire on any of my riggs. Did I mention a free 30 trial, if I dont' like them I bring them back and they order me whatever I want. These guys bend over backward for me, worth a few extra bucks.

I took a look at the Toyo website. Those look like some good all terrain tires you got there. I've been hearing some very positive things about Toyo light truck tires.

I noticed while on their site that the Open Country H/T tread pattern looks suspiciously like Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires.

How's the noise level of your Open Country A/T's???

 

Marlin, the Toyo's have always been very quiet, which kinda surprizes me with the tread design they have. Occasionally, they will sing for just a second when passing though standing water at hiway speeds. The Goodyears I took off were planing badly in the rain and still had 50% tread left. I have never had the toyos hydroplane. They ride, handle and wear well and are, IMO at least, a great all season tire. I've owned about seven set on various rigs and not a bad one out of the bunch - love em!!

 

I wasnt being a smart ***, i just would never pay 1200$ for tires. I dont need LT tires so i dont buy em. If you actually need LT tires for the work you do with your truck then by all means buy em. My truck is just a daily driver, and more of a passenger vechicle with the way i use my truck.

There are probably just as many diffrent needs for types of tires as there are drivers. Just because a tire works well for me dosen't mean it will work well for you under different conditions. Road conditions, speed, weight, weather and many other factors all make a difference in how a tire will wear, ride, sound, look, grip the road, and what ever. We all have different expectations of what we want a tire to do for us. I hope you all take that into account when you buy your next set of tires.
Sometimes with luck and good management you get what you pay for.

 

Pat, point well taken. I would have have preferred something less than a 10 ply tire myself, but they were only 14 bucks more a copy than the 4 ply. Just did'nt seem to make sense to pay basically the same money for a four ply tire. The factory 18" rims complicated the whole matter as the tire I wanted in the stock size only came in 4 and 10 ply. My last set of "OPATs" cost less than 650 mounted and balanced but were on an older truck and 15" rims. The 18" factory wheel is not one of Fords better ideas. Tires for this wheel run anywhere from about 225 to 325 a copy, expensive to say the least. I found the same to be true with Goodyear and BFG. Do I like the tires - absolutely. Would I have liked to have spent less money, You bet! My apologies for being surly in the earlier post.

 

No offense taken, i was kinda rubbing and pushing your buttons. As long as you like the tires then all is well. Dont let me be the ulitmate judge on what happens with your truck.

Think 18's are bad try looking at 20's. 350-500 for a nice set
