285's v. 315's
|
Just looking for a little help here I am trying to decide on size for the new BFG AT's for the Truck. I would like a much larger tire under the truck (compare to 265/70/17's) but do not want any rubbing issues. Anyone running the 315's? Thanks for the help.

A few people are running 315/70-17 (35x12.50) BFG's on stock 97-03 F-150 4x4's by using the OEM 17x7.5 inch wheels. The secret seems to be using the OEM wheels. This is an extremely tight fit and there will probably be some minor rubbing on the frame at full steering lock. Personally, I wouldn't go with 315's unless you plan on a lift in the near future. I just think the wheelwells look too stuffed with 35's at stock height, but that is just my personal opinion. If you are gonna leave the truck at stock height, I'd suggest the 285/70-17's (33x11.50).

I'm with Wendell.
I adjusted the T-Bars on my 02 Screw last weekend and had 285-75-16s put on and I think they are perfect. I took it for some light banging around on a jobsite adn there wasn't any rubbing at all. I'll try to put a pic in my sig tomorrow. anybody know how?????

I agree
That I do not think it looks too stuffed. I was wondering how much "trimming" or cranking on the t-bars you had to do? I want a taller tire in the wheel well than the 285/70's

I took off the lower valance piece on the front, trimmed a little of the inside of the front fender plastic in the wheel wells, moved my running boards back about 1-2 inches and turned up my torsion bars. All in all I think I have 2-3 hours in messing with the truck. I bowhunt in the fall and winter and drive in some not so level places and have had no issues with rubbing at all.
Click on the camera icon by my name and goto my picture directory, in the Helos album there are a couple of pics that show what I trimmed on the front.

No More Running Boards
Never really liked the way they looked on the truck from the moment I bought it. Thought I just looked too much like an Expedition (I bought a pick-up with extra space.) Not to say I dont like the expedition. Anyone have pictures of the 285's riding on the factory 17's?

jtjohn - My truck is at stock height. I have not even touched the torsion bars. I am running 285/70/17 BFG AT KO's on 17x8.5 MB wheels. Here's what mine looks like.

I run 305/50-20 and I do get slight rear rub. It doesn't even mar the tire, but you can see the rubbing marks on the wheel well.
