XLT Wheels - Bad and Worse

Just picked up my 06 XLT SCREW (6.5' bed) the other day.

When I ordered it I went back and forth on which wheels to get. I ended up going with the Aluminum w/ painted accents. I probably would of gotten the chrome wheels but, no offense to those with them, they are so lame. There is no character to them, no depth, etc. When they are all cleaned up and shiny they don't look bad but othewise I think they are ugly as sin. Now I'm looking at my truck and wondering why I paid $100 extra for these wheels - I don't think they're much better. I hate the painted accents on them, I'd wish they'd of left those without paint.

Anyways, just venting. And damn wheels are expensive - maybe I can find a decent set on ebay! Going to have a hard time convincing the wife I need new wheels after spending this much on a new truck!

Besides the wheels I love the truck so far.

I hated the gray paint on my XLT wheels and since my truck is black, I obessed until I painted the gray slots black. I like it much better now. Across a parking lot it now looks as if the wheels are slotted. Look at the pics in my gallery.

If I can get home before dark today I'll take some pics.

BlueJay - I think that's what they were trying to achieve with the gray paint. From a distance it works, but get within 50' or so and it's obvious they are painted.

Yours look good - how did you paint them? Don't think I have the gumption to go painting stuff on my truck yet, but yours turned out good. Like I said I'll post a pic but my truck is the dark torreador red with Ariz beig 2-tone. I was almost thingking that the beige would look better than the gray - but that would probably look goofy too.

I understand about the wheels, they have to be clean to look decent. I have the machined alums and have kleen wheels because I would clean them everytime I would get home. As far as the XLT goes though, I think the machined alums are the better looking of the choices, but still leave alot to be desired. I am currently looking for some nice 17x8in chrome wheels with 5.5in of backspacing, but options are limited, very limited. Until I find some I like I will run mine. But keep them clean, that makes all the difference.

the rims on the 97 F-150 are better looking than the XLT rims on my 2004, best style of ford rims was on a 2002 XTR F-150....best to go aftermarket, better deal than Fools out running dodges...Sorry..!!!!!

I have an 04 with the chrome rims. They are okay, but your right no character to them. But that's okay, going to order some helos in the spring which should really dress up the truck a bit.

I also dislike the XLT wheel choices. I had no choice on wheels when I bought my truck, since I bought the XL model. Mine came with the ugly gray steel wheels. I later upgraded them to the 17" machined aluminum FX4 wheels. Much nicer. Got the tires and wheels new for $400. They were take offs.

Check out ebay if your interested in some factory take offs.

Those 17" FX4 wheels would look pretty good on your truck also.

Those look pretty nice - thanks.

Even the STX had a nicer looking aluminum wheel than the XLT IMO.

I have the chrome wheels on my 05 Screw and took a dislike to them at first sight. BUT - when it comes to cleaning them it is a snap. I can have all 4 of them spotless in the time it took to clean one of aluminum wheels that were on my 04 Scab. Just my .02

I would go with the 18's or aftermarket. In my opinion all of the other ford factory wheels look horrible. Not to mention I like the look of the tires sticking out a bit, or at least even with the fenders.
