A little mud and snow did me in....

Welp, I met my match tonight, and I must say I feel rather deflated.......it warmed up to the upper 30's/lower 40's over the last 2 days, ground thawed just enough and the remaining 2 inches of snow is very wet and slushy due to the temps.....well, parked my truck at my gf's house tonight, not enough room on the street, so I pulled into the cul-de-sac in front of her house.....I never would have thought there was enough mud to cause a problem....boy was I wrong......

frigin thing, I tell ya, its only in about 3-4 inches in, back wheels only, front tires arent in anything, and even in 4X4 Low, nothing doing, I couldnt believe it, for an hour I'm out there digging, trying to wedge wood under the rear wheels, no success.......I locked up the truck, and drove my gf's car home, absolutley fuming and frustrated beyond belief..........

All this money into a nice 4X4 and I cant even take on a little mud

Ok I just reread what you wrote, your front tires were on dry ground? If you were spinning your rear tires, your front should be spinning too, or else your 4wd isnt working.

Well no, the front tires werent on dry ground, it was snowy where they were, but they werent down in the mud like the rear tires were......thats why I'm suspicious now of whether or not my 4 wheel drive is working correctly

If your tires were spinning while you put it in 4 wheel drive then it probably didnt kick in. If the rear wheels were spinning and you stopped and put it in 4x4 sometimes it wont kick in.

Well if the front tires were in snow, then its possible they were just slipping...
But if they werent spinning, then either your 4x4 didnt engage properly or there may be some sort of problem.

Put your back tires in a muddy ditch, front on pavement. If you have to call someone to pull you out, it ain't working....

The real problem...

"Operator headspace and timing".

Just kidding That sucks. if your four wheel was working I would be greatly disturbed also. Good luck finding the problem.

all im gonna say is that i have a 05 150 4x4 and same situation in MA we had alot of rain over the couple days and it has been in the 40's so the grond is all wet and muddy, i parked my truck in my g/f's back yard and her yard turned into a swamp of nice soft mud. I currently still have the stock tires and all 4 tires were spinning and the damn truck still wouldnt move. These stockers really do suck. You were prob. having the same problem... Cant wait to get me some 35 baja claws then no more problems

yeah but as a daily driver vehicle, baja claws dont seem like a good choice...for off roading sure, they would've helped in that situation no doubt...but for road driving,

I need to find a happy medium

depends on how aggressive of a tread you want
i recommend the bfg all-terrain kos or the nitto terra grapplers
have had both & they handle increadibly on any terrain, except the bfg are a lil better in mud.
i know you can get at least 50k miles out of the bfg & ive heard numerous times, & seen it myself, people getting 70-80k miles out of them
i had a little over 46k miles (hard miles) on my terra grapplers before i decided to waste em & get some m/ts
im sure they could of gone another 20k miles or so
hope this helps you out
happy & safe holidays to yall & your families:santa:
