HELP!!! Nitto Mud Grapplers

Okay, so I ordered a set of 4 Nitto Mud Grappler 35X12.5X18's from Discount Tire Direct.

Originally, they were $248 each with $12 for stems for a total of $1,004 (shipping included).

I get this call 4 hours after I place they order telling me that they want $278 for SHIPPING!?!?!? (Apparently, their policy dictates that any tire over 70 lbs must be shipped truck freight and thus is subject to additional charges).

Has anyone else run into this problem? When you factor the shipping, the effective cost is now $321 per tire instead of the advertised $248.

Are there any other "reasonably priced" online vendors that carry either Nitto Mud Grapplers in 35X12.5X18 or Toyo Open Country 35X12.5X18???

Thanks for any help you guys!!!!

You might check out Ebay. I'm not sure on the Nittos but I picked up 5 Cooper STT's that are 35x12.5x18 for $249 each with free shipping.

that is the problem shipping big heavy tires and truck freight to a residential house is expensive. Is there a local Nitto Dealer around you that will price match?

We are a Nitto dealer but are not close to you so would be in the same situation with truck freight.

Thanks for the tip. I checked a couple local retailers, but their base price on each tire was considerably more, so the savings on shipping were eaten up by the price difference.

I called DTD to cancel the order and they changed the shipping from $278 down to $151. Total of $1,143 with shipping. I kept the order because $286 per tire is still about the same as the BFGs with free shipping.
