thats not true man, you get some pretty nice tires with the Fx4 package and the 18 inch rims, but i will agree that all the other tires eat it bad and new tires are a must if you really want a smooth nice ride...later

true, but some of those BFG and Good year's are still a P. Rated tire...the RT T/A on the FX4 dose not have the same tread as the BFG RT/TA LT rated tire ( 10 ply ) that I bought for my 04 F-150

I think the tire selection sucks too. I just ordered an XLT SCREW 4x4, only way to not get the cheap Generals is to upgrade to the Chrome Package for $1400 - I don't want 18" chrome wheels for that much!

You can't even get a damn leatherwrapped steering wheel with out shelling out for that package. So I'll live with my "color coordinated eruthane" steering wheel.

I can see the XL and STX getting cheapo's - but the XLT is pretty mainstream. I think they do that just to steer people to the higher end trims.

I think your right, its a shame that you cant customize the trims more, you have to buy the entire package. When it comes to tires, I dont play around and its a shame Ford decided to cut corners and install inferior tires. I wasnt willing to pay $300+ to "upgrade" to the Continentals/Generals from the Hangooks. I saved the money, got the Hangooks, and then later replaced them with A/T Revos which are much more suited for the truck. The best alternative is to just get the cheapy tires and then upgrade them yourself, its sad I know, but what else can we do? I also would like to upgrade steering wheels, the XLT wheel looks so cheap.

You can always try one of these:

I added one of these way back ...in the early 80's to a truck, it really did look good.

When I bought my truck there were many different tire and wheel combos on the F150s and the dealer did offer to swap different tires or wheels at a refund or added cost which is pretty nice if you don't like what is on the truck.
