wheel/tire size for stock height 98 F150 4x4

Hi all,

I will need new tires for my truck soon, and I want to upgrade the wheels and get some bigger tires. It is a 98 F150 4x4 with the offroad package. I believe it has 17's on there now, not sure of the tire size I'd have to look.

My question is, what would look good on the truck. 15's, 16's?? What tire size can I go without running into clerance problems?? Anyone know of any common stock height upgrades I can do that look good? Also, how do I fix my speedo, do I have to have the ECU programmed??

Sorry for all the questions, just a newb

Brian

I have also been looking for wheels for my 05 FX4. I think the 15 inch tires have the most sizes available. I have 18 inch wheels and have had a very hard time finding something that fits how I like, especially because the rim is only 7.5 inches wide. I would look at the 15 and 16 inch sizes and I would get a rim that is 10" wide to fit bigger tires the way I want them. So a 15x10 or 16X10 wheel would be MY start an then tires from there. www.4wheelparts.com is having a sale on wheels and tires, they have some pro-comp wheels and tires for under 1200 delivered. a good website that I refer people to is www.1010tires.com they have a calculator that will allow you to see the difference in sizes, and how it will affect your speedometer. Also there is alot of info in the threads about tires and wheels and has been asked before. Good luck.

Hawkz28, rims smaller than 16" will not fit on your truck. Your stock tire size was probably 265/70R17. Not sure how large you can go before you have to crank the torsion bars.

TX-FX-4, smallest rim you can fit on your truck is 17".

Thanks for the info KINGFISH51 and SILVER05. I did not know that. I believe it's due to the brake calipers??. Thanks again

Yes due to the brakes. Also sometime on the 05 they changed the calipers enough that some 17" wheels don't fit. Do a search in the 04-06 forum.

I'd suggest running a 305/70-16 (33x12.50) on a 16x10 inch wheel. I think this is the best looking combo on a stock 4x4. To fit this combo, you will have to crank up your torsion bars or trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance.

Thanks, I'll look into that. No problem doing a little mods to get it to fit.

Looked on a tire/wheel site, this chart says I need a 3" lift for the above mentioned combo?? (Probably because of the mentioned trimming I'm assuming)

Does anyone with a similar truck as mine have the 16x10's and 33" tires, Any pics?

Thanks again

awesome

I was looking at ntwonline.com and found some nice 16x10's and some mud terrain 33x12.50's that I'm considering. I'm also considering at 3" body lift maybe move up to 35's, I did a search on that stuff I think I'm learning alot from this board

I'll post pics when I get the stuff on
