help me pick some 17" highway tires...
hey guys, got an '01 F150 supercab 4x4, has the factory optional 17" wheels with 265/70/17s on it. Right at about 130k miles, and am due for some new tires again. The first time, i went with some BFG all terrain t/a knock offs, and they worked ok, but i do a LOT of highway driving so was going to change focus from an all terrain tire to more of a highway tire. I know i've seen a newer f150 once that had the factory 17" wheels but had some really nice looking directional high performance looking, maybe zrated tires on it. It looked really good. Basically that's what i'm looking for my truck. I did a search on tirerack, and couldn't find anything i really like in the factory tire size. So i figured i would ask here since you guys are so great. Let me know if anyone has any ideas of what a good tire would be, pics would be awesome, and pics of the tires in mind on an f150 would be really great. a lose of ground clearance isn't a big deal, as i said 95% of the driving i do is on the highway, hell i've put on the 100k miles just this last year (bought the truck with 30k on it). Thanks in advance!

hmm... looking for something with a lot better street/highway tread then that. those look like some descent all terrain tires, but i'm wanting something like a sport tire on it. like the tires off a lightning or something, but in a size that would fit and look descent on my factory 17" wheel.

these tires here look descent. i wonder what they would look like mounted on the truck, and think this would through off the speedo at all? i assume no as a 275/60/17 is very close to a 265/70/17, probably gonna be just a tad shorter, but remember you base the sidewall measurement off the initial width.

275/60R17 is 5% smaller than stock, or a 03" tire vs. 31.6" tire. I wouldn't put them on a 4wd truck. I'd focus on this ranking with an emphasis on the number of reported miles. Its is tough is beat the Michelin LTX M/S. Maybe the Geolandar H/T-S G051 for a little lower cost.

I have a truck similar to yours. My driving habits sound similar to yours...almost all highway, usually high speed expressway. I do tow a trailer about once a month or so and do venture off the paved roads about once a month or so. But the vast majority of my miles are highway at high speed, in traffic.
I run Yokohamas that I bought at TireRack and had shipped to my local repair/tire shop. Great tires, perfect for my driving needs, almost no noise, excellent wet weather traction (very important where I live), and very stable. Highly recommended. They've been exactly what I was told they would be.
I've had mine for 2 years, about 25k miles on them, still look like new.

My driving is mostly highway also.
I replaced the original General Grabbers on my 02 SCab at 80,000 with Firestone Destination LE's on 8/30/04. Ride was much nicer. Excellent wet traction. 30,000 plus miles on the firestons with no problems. Bought three and got 4th free.
General Grabber's were the worst riding tire I've ever owned.
