Excessive noise from Hawk pads.......

Has anyone else experienced this?? I put on a set of HPS pads with new stock rotors and they squeel like crazy. I figured it might go away after the pads were broken in but no luck. 2000 miles later they are still making noise.

The squeeling gets worse as the pads heat up too.

Thanks in advance.

Which Hawk pads did you get? They have several and one of them could be a harder compound material giving you better brakes but also more squeal. Is it a low speed squeal, a constant squeal when braking, a few more details please

The squeal is 90% of the time. Regardless of brake pressure or speed.

Did you let them break in during the first few hundred miles or did you hammer down from the get-go? ALot of people experience that constant squeal with pads that glazed over before the break in period was through.

However, the hawk pads are more performance oriented and may be prone to squeal a little more than the average pad, but 90% of the time under pressure is to much. Its really hard to diagnose without the ability to drive.

Heres your answer directly from Hawk

Hawk Performance’s HP Plus brake pad compound is ideal for Autocross and Track Day drivers looking for a high performance race compound that can take the heat of the track and get you home safely without having to change the pads.

Warning! Due to the dramatic friction levels produced by this product to achieve "race-level" braking, rotor wear, noise, dust, and pad life may be affected.

Mine do the same...I just find a nice long country road take it up to about 70 and hit it hard (not enough to lose control). It seems to take the glazing from all the city driving I do off and they're back to normal. My stock pads lasted only 19K and now I'm at 45K and the hawk pads look just as thick as when new. And braking improvment? Oh Yeah is all I say. The part I like is when you hit it they grab but it's when you are almost stop it seems to really dig in. They sure make the ABS work hard

I know a few people I talked to that put hawk on there ride and it ate there rotors up. They said you need aftermarket rotors for these pads. I never tried them personaly. I always had good luck with rabestos.

I used the Hawk Ceramic pads, and have nothing but praise for them. Very smooth, quiet, and very little dust. Way better than stock.

Nope the rotors look real good and they are stock....besides on my'97 the stock rotors warpped at 50K and I expect these not to last the next turn so I'm not worried....probably go with some Performance rotors next bat.

I am not worried about the OEM rotors as they are pretty tough. I was aware of the warnings with the HPS pads but I did not expect this........looks like I will have to do a few high speeds stops to get rid of the glazing.

I may try the Hawk ceramic pads next time out. CCRider......how are they compared to OEM pads??

I sure like the stopping power of the HPS pads

As far as stopping power, they seem equal to stock, no better or worse. Just totally smooth.........and quiet, with no dust to speak of.

I have the EBC greenstuff pads, and they start slow and then bite hard. I also converted to crossdrilled/slotted rotors to aid in the process. I am no big fan of ceramic pads, they are expensive and I don't think you really get what you pay for. Now thats OEM mind you, not aftermarket performance pads like hawks.

I have heard several people talking about the Kevlar pads and how great they are. Might want to check those out

Also went with the EBC 7000 pads and their rotors. No Squeal or dust and much improved braking.
