Need advice quickly please!!!

I need to get new tires today.....I'm moving this weekend and I need to get this done today. My original size is 255/65/17. We all know there isn't much out there in that size (04 2WD Screw) I had the tire guy order some 275/60/17 tires, they are the same height as stock. Well they didn't come in but he has some 265/70/17's which are 1.5 inches taller. I know my speedo will be off by about 3mph but I'm more worried about the loss of low end torque and gas mileage. Is the 1.5 inches enough to make that big of a difference?

Thanks in advance for the advice

Jeff

Thanks for the info guys. I went ahead and had them put on. They look really good, fill the wells up a little more.... plus Firestone gives you (me) a 30 day test drive, so I can give them back and recieve full credit within 30 days so I figured what the heck, I can always have another dealer order the size I wanted once I get to Michigan.

Raoul, do you think your mileage fell off because of the tires or a heavier foot due to the feeling of less torque?

Not Raoul, but I went from 265 70 17 to 275 60 17 Or taller to shorter. I can say i have seen better fuel mileage on avereage than before. The extra torque required is fairly significant. I would go back to firestone in a couple of days and have your guy order the right size telling him that you don't like the tires for what ever reason.

That's an interesting theory I hadn't considered. I have to say I don't drive with an agenda, there is no set performance I try to achieve with my foot but, who knows what goes thru the minds of men.

I went from 255x70x16 to 265x70x16
I know the odometer is off slightly and that is some of the difference.

I have always filled up and hit the trip reset.

Original tires - Low fuel light came on at 365 miles.
New tires - Low fuel light comes on at 320 miles.

I don't think my odometer is suddenly off 10 % so, some of the diff has to be worsened mpg with the larger tires.
Whether it is the increased weight of the tire, the effective change in my gear ratio or whatever, I don't know.

All I know is when the light used to come on and when it comes on now.
The change was sudden, at the tire change, not gradual.

Ha, if it was a 4WD, that would be my direction. The more I drove it last night, the less I liked it. It was difficult to drive it on the highway. It seemed like I had to put more pressure on the pedal than I'm used to to maintain speed, and the RPM's were higher......Don't like it. Going back today to have the 275/60/17's reordered.

Kinda sad though, I really liked the look of the taller tires.........
