Cool 20" or 22"?? Pros & Cons

I need everyones input and experience here. I want to put an aftermarket wheel and tire on my 2004 F150 XLT Supercrew. I personally think the 22" would look better, but I am worried about ride and warranty problems if I have to bring it back in. Will either size mess up my speedo? What would be the fix for this if so? What would be the best size tires for both the 20" or the 22" rims? Any input appreciated to help me make my decision? Thanks!

I would go with 22's. I did on my Expy and am so glad that I didn't settle for 20's. As for your speedo, it's not the rim size that affects it. It is the overall height of the tire. My Expy came with 265/70-17's which are approximately a 32x10.50 tire. I changed to 305/45-22's which are approximately a 33x12.50 so my speedo may be off slightly, but I havn't checked it. I was concerned about the ride also, but I think the 22's ride better. The ride is slightly firmer, but the overall handling is much better.

Just go to the gallary section and do a search for "Wandell's Screw and Expy".

Cool Look at the galleries

I was in the same situation recently. "If I go with the 22's are they gong to rub or look too "bling"? If I go with the 20's are they going to look too small and is it worth spending the $$ for 2 inches more wheel? What size tire, do I need a lift, etc, etc..."

For a month straight I looked at tons of pictures on this site's galleries and wheel websites. In retrospect, I realize that more than anything, it just depends on your taste. There are way too many options available, each with it's own pros and cons, for one setup to emerge on top. Otherwise everyone would be running that setup. Just look closely at what others have done and decide what you like.

After much back and forth I went with the 22x9.5 with a 305/45/22. I am more than pleased with the way they look and ride and there is no rubbing. Since they are only slightly bigger than the stock tires in diameter (though much wider), I didn't even bother with the speedo calibration.

Good luck and can't wait to see the pics when you decide!

Hey f150cent,

Do you have a 4wd or 2wd, did you lift or lower or leave it stock?

Thanks,

Duke

22's would probably look better. The reason that I didn't go with 22's was because I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for the tires. I would go with 20's with a nice tire, not too low profile though.

4x4 with a leveling kit. Although it's not exactly level. The kit they put on was only two inches and I think it should have been 2.5 inches but I don't mind the look. As long as it didn't rub (and it doesn't).

That's really a leveling kit? Geese mine almost looks more level than that stock. Hmm, a little odd. I wonder is someone would photoshop 22s on my truck. I'm stuck between 22's with 305/45/22s or 20's with more of a truck type tire and leveling kit possibly.
