New wheels and tires on a semi-limited budget!

I'm getting the big time urge to slap some 18" rims on my 2002 2WD F150 Supercab now that I see the 18's on the newer models. But I'm not too sure if 18's will fit since I currently only have 16's on the truck (255 70R16). Anyone know if a 265 60R18 can fit without any additional modding?

Yes, it will fit. As for a good value in wheels, look at the Eagle Alloys.

Don't do it. I have 18" on my 2005 F150 FX4 and wish I would have gone with the 17's. There is no reason for the 18's unless you like to pay 30% or higher for the same tires. It is terrible. Save yourself the agony. The tires for 18's are also hard to find.

I went from 18's to 17's and have no regrets at all and saved some $$.

I don't know if I want to get rid of my 18's altogether. I might buy 17's and put studded snow tires on em, and only run my 275/65R18 Rugged Trails during 5 months of summer and get 8 years out of em. I am going to wait and see how my BFG Rugged Trails do in the snow and on the ice.

Well, and here's another thing. I have been able to drive a few vehicles that have tires I'm considering. I've noticed that, on a 2003 with 17" tires, the ride is relatively smooth (like with my truck). When driving a 2001 that had 18" tires put on it, I noticed that the ride was markedly better than mine (both trucks had all original factory suspension to my knowledge). I test drove a 2005 Lariat with 18's on it and the ride was smoother than hell. But of course I can't compare apples to oranges either.

If I'm not only just looking for bigger tires but also a smoother ride (as right now my 2002 with 16's doesn't ride all that smoothly), would it be beneficial for me to also look at upgrading the suspension?

I'm going to bump this to ask another question -

Would the 17's ride smoother than my 16's?
