Tire Option Never Mentioned

One option that does not seem to ever have been discussed is the BFG Rugged Trail 285/70/17 (33X11.2). The BFG Rugged Trail is the factory tire and either comes in a 265/65/17 or 275/65/18 (Lariats with 18 wheels).

Anybody ever look into these as an upgrade?

Well, the 285/70-17 is a nice size. However the Rugged Trail is one of BFG's low end tires. Most people want a better performing tire as well as a larger size.

How about someone like myself who does 90% of his driving on road, uses his truck for eveything like work, play and hunting and some wheeling...would these be any good for me? do they have increased grip over my generals that are on my truck now?

They would probably be an improvement over the Generals, but that isn't saying much. You may be perfectly happy with them. Just don't expect them to perform like BFG's premium tires. If they did, they would cost a lot more.

Probably about the same as the Rugged Trail.

Adios, I have the Toyo Open Country AT tires in that size on my 04 Scab. They are a great tire, nice handeling, low noise and good in the rain. The front end has no shake at any speed and they took very little weight to balance. I have not used them off roading so will not comment about that.
