Front brakes driving me nuts

I recently bought new front brake pads for my 2000 f150. (autozone)
After telling the knuckle head behind the counter, I didn’t want any pads that squeaked or emitted tons of dust, what do I get?
Pads that squeal. Folks it’s driving me nuts!

These are the ceramic shoes, just like what came from the factory (As I was told)
How can I get these to stop squealing?

It's getting to the point I rather ram the cars ahead of me, rather than appling the brakes.....

Get some semi-metallic pads.

Was the putz that told ou they were ceramic from the factory trying to sell you a bridge too?

Brakes are going to generate dust. That's how they work. Some pads generate less dust than others, but as the friction material wears away, it's got to go somewhere. To stop the swueal, use a semi-metallic pad. Also be sure they are equipped with the pad shims. It's a thin piece of metal that rides between the backing plate and the caliper. Without the pad shims, they are almost guaranteed to squeal.

What finish did you put on the rotors after you machined them?

Compound

When you installed the pads, did you apply the "anti-squeal" compound? This stuff is similar to silicone adhesive - It sorta cements the pads to the appropriate parts and absorbs the vibrations that cause the noise.

I installed the ceramic pads from NAPA after looking at the ones from 'Shucks' (aren't they the same as Autozone?). No noise, no squeal, no dust, no problems, didn't use anti squeal compound either.

Difference is about $30 for the pads. Now we know why... Silence is costly.

When you did your brakes did you pop your tins out and clean from behind them real good? Did you clean and greese the sliders? These are very important steps that are often over looked by the diy. Did you spray the backs of the pads with disc brake quiet? dont over look these steps, if you do these steps and your more likely to have a sucessfull brake job...Rob
