20" rim = less power???

Hi all,

I have a 97 Ford ext cab 4.6 V8. I currently have the stock rim and tires, 265/75/16. I am wanting to upgrade my rim and tires. I am looking at 20" rims and 285/50/20. My question is will I lose that much power going with that wheel/tire configuration? Also will I need to upgrade my brakes.

Thanks

the wheel will be heavear, and you are going up in size so that will effect your overall gear ratio, so yes you will lose performanse it will take you more gas pedal to go the same speed as with your stock rims and tires, i think your stock brakes will be just fine with the setup mentioned,

I don't think you will notice a difference. The 285/50-20 (31 inches) is about an inch shorter than your 265/75-16's (32 inches). On my Expy, I went from a 32 inch tall 17 inch tire to a 33 inch tall 22 and I didn't notice any difference.

Well I decided on the 20" rims with the 285/50/20. They are nice. I have not noticed any performance degrade. My only complaint is if I turn the wheel all the way to one side the tire will rub, but no big deal. Thanks for the advice it helped
