01 4x4 SCrew Tires

Here is a picture of my stock wheel and tire on my 01 SCrew 4x4. It has the 17" wheels and the crappy 265/70/17 Goodyears that are orignial. I am looking to get some new tires and want to get the biggest that will fit the rim and inside the wheel well without a lift. I have searched around a little but don't see anyone with this wheel. Any help is greatly appreciated. I bought this truck about 3 weeks ago and love it, had a 97 expedition with 190k on her that this one replaced.

I'd suggest going with a 285/70-17 BFG AT KO or Toyo Open Country AT. These work out to be approximately a 33x11.50-17 tire. If you want something a little wider, a couple of companies make 33x12.50-17's. You can fit a 315/70-17 (35x12.50) BFG AT KO, but it is an extremely tight fit and the height will cause a noticable loss of performance.

Can't seem to find the 33x12.50-17's. Can you tell me who makes them. I would like to go a little wider than the stock tires as well as a little taller.

Thanks again,

Shane (aka newbie)

The Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX and **** Cepek Radial FC II are both available in 33x12.50-17. I think Cooper makes a tire or two in this size also.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to get something wider..... Seems like there are a lot more choices for 16" wheels. I'm so new at all this it's not even funny.....I always thought the 17s looked better but what do I know. I drive about 110 miles round trip every day to work so I need something with some road manners, I also bowhunt and drive in some rough places during the hunting season. I had Kelly AWRs on my Expedition and they seemed to do pretty well and they wear really good. But it's been a while since I bought tires and the price of those are higher than the BFGs & the Bridgestone Revos.

Wandell....If i can be nosey what did the wheels and tires you have on your truck set you back? They look really nice.

My BFG's were like $168 each, but that was in 2001. The Eagle Alloy 102's normaly sell for around $125 or $130 each.

The **** Cepeks look real nice, do you have any first hand knowledge of anyone running them. Seem like they may make a lot of noise. What kind of mileage do you think I would get out of those or the Mickey Thompsons? Thanks again for your help, I'm just trying to sort this all out......

I've read a couple of magazine test on both, which were very favorable. A couple of members at FTW are running the Mickey Thompson and DC and are very happy with them. I really don't know about milage, but most all terrian tires get pretty good milage. I have over 37,000 on my BFG's and they look nearly new.

The DCs look great and I can buy them for $10 a tire more than the BFGs. What 's your personal opinion?

All the tire guys that I talk to are saying that a 12.50 isn't going to ride on the full tread on my stock wheels. What cha think...

Most tire manufacturers recommend an 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for a 12.50 width tire. Your wheels are 7.5 inches, so they are 1/2 inch narrower than recommended. Running a tire on too narrow a wheel can cause the center portion of the tread to wear slightly faster than normal, similar to the wear you would get from running too much air pressure. Having said that, there are dozens of members here and at FTW running 12.50 width tires on OEM 7.5 inch wheels without any problems at all.

I was looking at this thread....

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=191161

and was wondering if the before picture is what my truck will look like with the 33s and no lift. I personally don't like the way it looks with the fender wells that full and no lift... Man I'm even more confused now than before....

Just want to say thanks to you(wandell) for all the info.....

Shane

Heres some pics of my 4x4 Screw at stock height with 285/75-16 BFG AT KO's on 16x10 Eagles. The 33x12.50's will be the same height, but one inch wider.

Well... That looks pretty good to me. Our trucks are almost identical. Where yours has the grey lowers I just have some grey striping and white below. Thanks again, I think I will go with the 33s.
