Usually from test or reviews of the tire by owners. It is just about impossible to look at a tire and judge. Some tires with similar tread patterns will behave differently because of rubber compound, etc. What tires are you considering?

Tires

All the tires I’m looking at are cheaper tires. Pathfinder suv's from discount and futura Dakota at's from pepboys. I might try to swing a set of nitto terra grappler at's; One pair at a time. I'm on a real buget and the goodyear RT/S oem tire I have are horrible on any wet surface.

most offterrain tires arre not very good on the wet surfaces. look at it this way its like a motorcyle the more rubber on the road the more traction more aggressive tires for offroad have bigger spaces between the lugs so they can clean out faster so u will have less tire on the road then a regularhighway tire. smaller spaces between the lugs mean more rubber on the road more traction, and i agree with wendall tire compounds do matter look for something softer

Yeah, everyone complains that the Goodyear RT-S tires are terrible in the rain. I'd save up for the Terra Grapplers.

I replaced the RT/S Goodyear doughnuts that were on my 2000 SCAB with Firestone Destination AT LT265/75/16 and I love them. I think that they are a great compromise tire between the aggresive BFG AT KO and the REVO. They use the same tread compound as the REVO but are a little less aggressive. Rain, snow and mud have NOT been a problem and they have very nice manners on paved roads. I have 2500 miles on them and they look new.

I know ther are many different opinions on tires and I just wanted to give you an other option. the price was $60.00 less per tire than the BFG.

Good luck with your shopping
