Brake dust
Okay, my 2004 FX4, 5.4L screw is less than a week old. There are about 180 miles on it and, I hate to say it, most are from my wife (I drive the economy car to work :o) I have noticed the front rims are black with brake dust, either my wife is out racing the neighbours, or this is normal? Does this come with the break-in period, or is my wife driving with 2 feet? Please let me know if anyone who bought a new truck and noticed a unusual amount of brake dust at the start.
Cheers!
Lovin it !

Yes, it's worse when new. Front brakes do more work and you will always get brake dust buildup in a heavy configuration.

My 2003 Expedition brakes create a lot of brake soot on the alloy wheels also. If you do a lot of around town driving like I do then you will find a lot of brake soot and worn out brakes (like I just had) after 29000 miles. So get used to it.

Replace the crappy, dusty OEM pads with either Raybestos Quiet Stops or Bendix Titanium Metallics if they are available for your truck.
Dust will be only a memory...

Brake Dust...
And get the brake dust off ASAP! Once it gets on there, you will never get it off. It's like it eats right into the rims!

Switch to HAWK HPS performance pads. NO dust, much improved stopping power. These pads are awesome, you will not be disappointed.
