So I went there awhile back to buy a truck. I knew what I wanted - a work truck for my dad. Simple, right? A basic, no frills truck. I told the sales guy. He proceeds to parade me through the lot. I stop him and asks why he is showing me what I don't want to buy.
Okay. We go into the office, he introduces me to a sales manager, and again, I say that I want to buy a work truck. Sales manager goes to his office and comes back in a few moments with spec sheets printed off his computer for a bunch of vehicles that I didn't want: a Mustang, a Focus, a Sport Track, and a 500. Everything on the lot except a work truck.
I say to him, "I see that you have work trucks on the lot, are they not for sale?"
He then goes to grab a bunch of keys, and proceeds to show me 5 different F150 trucks that were loaded with every luxury item that they could attach.
So I ask him what would happen to the leather seats when pops climbs in covered in dirt, mud, paint, and/or grime, how my dad was going to enjoy the 6 CD changer from the top of a ladder, and why the old man needed fat bling-bling rims. I point out the white work trucks in the corner and he says that we should go back in and he'll get us info.
Then he shows me a bunch of self generated printouts off of his computer to reason me into believing that it was cheaper to buy the Lariat and that I can not buy a truck without options because every truck had added features. I chose the option of leaving.
Doesn't option mean choice? Isn't an option something that I can choose to have or not?
I bought a truck from another dealership. It seems that every other Ford dealership can sell you a truck, and then add the options on if you option to buy the items.
I'm sure that the "appearance package", engine heaters, and "luxury package" are important to a lot of other people. But I couldn't figure out why engine and windshield heaters were already attached to trucks sold in a city with no snow, except for the fact that the dealer can add another $1,500 to the price of the vehicle.
But the folks at the Line-X shop right next door are great and I would have apply the treatment all of my trucks.
