Anyone know the scene out there? My wife and I are going to be out there from Tues to Sat. (she has some training and I'm tagging along).
It appears that Hollywood is just up the road and that there's a Disney Park nearby but, beyond that, give me some suggestions!
Thanks folks!!
=RP=
OK RP here's the deal. Be very very careful in Buena Park the surrounding area outside the tourist attractions is HORRIBLE, very dangerous place to be after dark if you know what I mean. That being said, there is plenty of great stuff to do in Buena Park and the L.A area. Definitely do Disneyland if you've never been, I'm 26 years old and I still love that place, I try to go at least once a year. Hollywood is ok but nothing spectacular. In Buena Park there are several really cool things to do. There is Medieval Times which is a dinner/show where the theme is jousting, swordfighting, and other "entertainment" from the middle ages. Definitely a good show. Across the street from that is the Movie Land Wax Museum, the tour takes about 2-21/2 hours and you get to see lifesize wax figures of famous people in great movie style settings, a super cool stop and I definitely recommend it. Another dinner/show in Buena Park is Buffalo Bill Cody's if your into western themed things like that, personally I've never been to that one but have heard nothing but good things about it. Universal Studios is close if you've never been good times there too. If you and the wifey want to take a drive you could always go through Beverly Hills or Pacific Coast Highway and back into the Hollywood Hills checking out all the multi million dollar celebrity mansions. Either way you go there is tons of stuff to do. Good Luck and have fun in L.A traffic

My fiance is a native and I moved here as a kid. Besides Disneyland their are 2 other roller coaster theme parks, Magic Mountain (Six Flags) and Knott's Berry Farm, plenty of places to lose money, I mean shop like Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, The Beverly Center, South Coast Plaza, etc.
What ever you do make sure not to try to overbook your free time as the drive times are very lengthy and raffic is just scary bad. Yahoo maps/Mapquest?Google Maps are all fine tools but don't trust them on estimated drive time as they are not at all accurate for SoCal. Try to keep it to one or two things a day at most as otherise you won't be able to get them done.
Sorry, I want you and your wife to have a good time, I just hate it here (Los Angeles area) with a passion of late that is palpable.
There seems to be a plethora of amusement parks in the area based on simple web searching. As for shopping -- which would be the wife's forte' -- where would you all recommend? Nothing 'ritzy' but more the 'outlet mall' type of scene. This trip is more for her than me -- I'm just a tag along.
Honestly, my idea of a good time is going to be to sleep until noon, go eat a simple breakfast and maybe enjoy a Starbuck's coffee, and then roam around aimlessly with little to no agenda. Any cool state parks within a normal drive? Looking at Maps & Streets, it appears that there's a couple of places near Seal Beach and Westminster? Is Long Beach worth hitting -- I'm a huge Snoop fan . LMAO!

Outlets are a bit further out. Their is a place called "The Citadel" off of the 5 Fwy that I think is a outlet http://www.citadeloutlets.com/, then some down in Carlsbad and out at 29 Palms.
No outlet mall in 29 Palms. I think you mean Cabazon which is on the 10E BEFORE the exit to the 62 which leads to 29 Palms. And thats a heck of a drive from LA. If you do come out to Cabazon though, RP, I might just have to come meet up with you for lunch.

Thanks again guys... Looks like this may be the mecca of amusement parks... We'll find some stuff to get in to I'm sure... the best vacations seem to be the ones with little to no agenda -- just wing it.
We'll see you guys in about 16.5 hours... I'd have to go on record as to saying that I'm not really looking forward to it -- you see, I live out of a suitcase for my job and travel isn't anything that I really enjoy anymore because of that -- but, to apease the wife and to give her a feeling of security (because she never travels and is ultra-nervous about this trip for some reason), I'm going.
I'll survive... just not looking forward to it... nothing against SoCal... just that I really miss my pillow and want to use it more often. *sighs* More nights in a hotel...
At least it's a nice hotel... Sheraton @ Cerritos... looks nice on the website.

Oh ya RP since your staying in Cerritos you can check out the Cerritos Auto square.... that should keep you busy for awhile if you just wanna check out new cars
