Post HD cooling & Tow pkg radiator ?'s solved

Well the new radiator was installed, and I did my own investigation, heres what I
found.
Keep in mind all radiators have the same dimentions:

545 sq inch frontal area
17.07" height
33.88" wide
all single core

now for the fun stuff:

2000 and 2001

engine/ trans/ rad thick/ fins/per inch/
4.2 all 1.02" 13.97
4.2AutoW/air& super cool 1.02 16.50

4.6 all 1.02" 13.97
4.6 W SC all 1.42" 15.24

5.4 auto 1.02" 16.50
5.4 W SC auto 1.42" 15.24

it seems that mine along with others got a up graded radiator, the 1.02" with the
16.50 fins instead of the 13.97 fin, It's still the wrong one unless you have a 4.2.The
fact is if you have HD cooling or a class III towing package you should have a 1.42"
single core radiator, if you don't I would b!tch. I did and got mine replaced right to
Fords own spec's.
The part number I recieved was YL3Z-8005-GA,(replaced XL3H-8005-DA) they
ordered a YL3H-8005-GA, the latter was taken off a 2 core on the lot, it seems that
this was also some kind of mistake and that # comes back to a single core as listed
above. well I hope this clears the air, and for some it just may mean a trip back to
the dealer, let the battles begin!!

In my owners manual('99), under Capacities and Specifications is the following table concerning Engine Coolant.

4.2L 1 row radiator = 19.0L(20.1 quarts)
4.2L 2 row radiator = 20.4L(21.6 quarts)
4.6L 1 row radiator = 19.5L(20.6 quarts)
4.6L 2 row radiator = 21.9L(23.1 quarts)
5.4L 1 row radiator = 22.6L(23.9 quarts)
5.4L 2 row radiator = 24.1L(25.5 quarts)

Just thought I'd pass this along. If you have such a table in the newer models manual you could ascertain any changes in volume.

Hi,
Well I went outside today and measured mine and guess what. I have the 1.02" radiator. My window sticker plainly states and I will quote for those so they won't have to dig theirs out "Trailer Towing Group, Class III". Needless to say I am pissed!!!!!

2000 SuperCab 4x4,5.4, ORP, Red/Gold, Trailer towing group(what little that means), All power options under the sun, Westin Nerf Bars

Alright,
I went out and measured the rad as I have stated. I got the part# and called two different dealers with it. They have no way of knowing if this is a HD rad or not. The parts book only goes by numbers. I have one that is not stated thus far. XL3H-AB-229. It is only 1" thick and in talking with sales, you get a HD rad with the trailer towing group along with the HD alternator. But mine has the credit for the alternator. So I guess I will never know if this is correct or not. My rad was made in 9/99 and the truck was built in 10/99. So, any help would be appreciated. I don't plan on any massive towing but will tow my street rod in the summer and really don't want any over heating problems.

Question

http://fordtruck.fordtraining.com/cg...p?vehicleid=17

The above ford website will list the 1.42 radiator as the one for "super Cooling"

You can check the Ford Motor Co homepage and look under F-150 options and it clearly states the Tow Pkg. includes (a radiator upgrade) heavy duty cooling/heavy duty elect.--Super Cooling
http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f-150/specs/
I went to the dealer today and they are contacting the district rep. This information is for a 2001 but the same infor was listed last year for a 2000. Let's get the radiator we paid for

Bubbadewsky,(that first link) thats the document I got, right there it says what you are suppose to have!I got it from Ford.

2000sc thats the same response I was getting, "HUH?? I... Dunno,.... UH I'll have to check on it!!" this is also from some friends in parts depts.Your alt credit is because the 5.4 comes with the larger alt, so it is credited in the pkg.You did however get boned on the radiator.

Again, I go with some type of cover up theory, all these A-Holes have this information at their fingertips, yet not a one did an F-N thing, when I called the owner of the dealership and told him, "this is now in your hands, either get your people to get me some answers of I will bring a civil action against your dealership!" I have to admit after that things happened, but before I felt I was getting a run-a-round. He made good on his promise, and got the matter settled quickly, I just wish his people would have done it without having me have to threaten taking them to small claims court.
I also wish I found that website that bubbadew has listed in his first post. And don't let them tell you, OH Ford changed the spec's, BS, show me in writing were they made the change.A little note, when I went to get it installed this clown told me "you know you have the proper one, they are just doing this as a courtesy." He will be getting a visit by me very soon will all the info I have gathered and I will,.. I promise you stick it in his face, and have him read it back to he, just incase the idiot can't read well, or needs some help with the big words.

Question

Would someone post the refill capacity of Engine coolant as stated in your 2000-2001 Ford F150 owners manual?
I am curious as to the difference in your capacities and those I stated above for a '99.

Where is the part number located on these radiators?

Do you just measure the silver part of the radiator at the top to get the thickness?

Where should I look to see an auxiliary tranny cooler if I have one?

And finally, how can I tell what alternator I have?

Thanks

1. Drivers side rad tank.
2.The core is the section that runs between the tanks, directly in front of the fan. fin and tube assy.
3. pass side lower in front of rad, with lines running to trans, the unit on the drivers side is a power steering cooler.
4. I haven't got a clue.

Perfect, chalk up another misbuilt truck.
Class III Group, 1.02" Radiator XL3H-8005-DA.

Should be a YL3H-8005-GA, parts guy confirmed it.

At least they got the tranny cooler right and the receiver/wiring. I can't tell what alternator it is though. Will ask at the dealer.

I took my truck to the dealer today
for the second time
The service manager showed me my power steering cooler for the second time
keeps trying to tell me that's the HD cooling
there going to get in touch with Ford now
I kept on asking why there wasn't a double
core radiator just had no proof before
mine has a 1.02 thick core with
the HD elec/cooling option

that still is the wrong radiator, it is 1.02 inchs wide on tubes! thats the radiator thats in my truck! YL3H-8005-GA is wrong!

The radiator we suppose have is 1.42 inches wide on tubes, but I can't get any numbers on that radiator.
