Question Do the 2001 5.4's have the head oil leak problem ?

Is the oil leak problem I have read about here a problem on the 2001 5.4 engine. I have one with 11k miles and it seems to have no slap or oil leaks. I just wondered if this is something that will come about

I don't think so (?)

I don't think either slap or the oil leak will be a problem in 2001's. They changed the piston to bore clearances to fix the slap and I think the oil leak was caused by the block not being machined correctly where the head gasket mates with the block (is that called the "deck?").

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but 2001's and up 5.4's should be great!

That sounds right to me, hades281 (great name, by the way!).

We've got a 2001 5.4 Lariat ORP with about 12K miles on it now, with no slap, no leaks, etc. everything is fine.

You're exactly right about that casting flaw in the block, and it would be nice to know the actual date of that fix in terms of engine production date on the cam cover stickers, so we could all easily check for ourselves.

Rangerr91, your 2001 should be just fine!
