EGR Valve

Is it poss to clean an EGR Valve, if so where is it and what is the prescribed
manner. Still having this dang rumble
growl (at back off idle). Have checked and
cleaned everything else. thks

Yes they can be cleaned as they occasionally build up carbon. The procedure is different for different vehicles because there are several different egr systems: ported vacuum, electronic egr, bp valve, ect. There are also several other checks you should perform to diagnose egr vavle problems. I would recommend picking up a Haynes manual for your truck and see what it says.

If you go through all the trouble of cleaning the EGR, I would recommend a carbon filter replacement gasket. It was extremely effective in cutting the carbon from my EGR after cleaning thus eliminating my rough idle. Check here :

Read everything it says on the 4 or 5 EGR links. One of them will be the filter. They will even tell you the closest dealer if you e-mail them.
