I have seen some posts on pinging is this a problem in 99 f-150 4.6's ?? i traded my Dodge 4x4 because of excessive pinging i hope the fords not prone to this.

 

Mine's never pinged, and I've run everything from low test to high test in it! In fact, I really can't tell the difference unless I'm on a long highway trip, then the higher octane (89 or 92) tends to give me a couple extra miles per gallon over the 87, but still no ping!

My 1998 f-150 4.6L runs good with no pinging and runs on anything labelled as gas.

 

Approx. 14,000 miles and no pinging!!!

Alas, I am the lone pinger. It started at about 30K. Dealer was no help! Chevron w/Techron was no help. This Romeo is a lemon. But I do get 20mpg on the highway, so my anger is somewhat tempered. I wanted to change the plugs, and wires but the Ford mechanic said that was a waste of money. Any help would be appreciated....

If haven't been able to fix the problem, I wouldn't put much faith in their opinions:

I'd at least give new plugs and wires a shot. I've seen several postings here concerning the stock plugs and folks being shocked at their condition afet 30 - 40 thousand miles.

F150 on the shore, The 97 plug wires leaked and you very well may need new plugs and maybe wires too. They have redesigned the plug wires to prevent water from getting into them. Mine were bad on two plugs at 45K.

BTW: All my family is from Easton. The Carroll's. Still have an Uncle there. Next time I'm up you can take me out to Harrisons on Tillmans Island for Crab cakes!

Ping could also be a lean condition. Check the fuel filter. aslo, when does the ping happen. pinging when under a load or high rpm stuff.

mine pinged a little when I fist got it, but went away.Since then I put a superchip in,and have to run premium, love the chip but it did not help my fuel millage at all.
