Anybody know the difference in these two motors? I've seen in several Ford parts manuals that distinguishes between a 4.6 triton and 4.6 windsor. I didn't know there was different 4.6's, but evidently there is. So how do you tell the difference? HELP!!!

ALL are tritons. there is a romeo version
and a windsor version. romeo, mich. plant and windsor, can.. 8th num in vin is
a W then you have a romeo version. , if it
is a "6" then windsor. The triton is the
only v8 gas engine in the new ford trucks to my knowledge.

 

Yes that is correct. All the new Ford V8 gas engines are "Triton" . The tranny you have is the 4R70W automatic. Welcome to the message board!

Are the 4.6L engines in the other Fords also Tritons? i.e., Crown Vic, Lincoln, etc?

 

Also there are differences in the Romeo and the Windsor engines and I think that's what you may be coming across in the Ford parts manual. Some parts that fit one, will not fit the other. They really are made differently. Do a search here on Romeo vs Windsor. A while back I had asked about adding performance parts to these two engines and if output was then different on each one. Lots of info here, just search.
