I think the manual trans equipt had 205 hp and the a/t had 195. Don't recall tq rating but I'll try to look it up and post later.

Pastmaster,My dads got a 302 in an 89 f-250 and I'm not to fond of it. It's a great car motor but it rev's too much in a truck, with a 5spd anyway. Going up steep logging roads he's really got to give it some throttle so he doesnt lug it then your going too fast. In the 300, I'll motor up the same road at 1000rpm and not bog it a bit. Besides he only gets about 10mpg. With mileage like that, he should of got a 460.

I have a 1992 5.0 f150 flareside that gets around 17 to 20 miles to the gallon. It has ok pulling power. But i also use to 460 in are farm trucks. Just had to tell you guy that I pull a play house home with it. The play house is 16 by 14 and 14 tall. And it was windy and hilly but I could run 45 to 50 at all times. The 460 kick @#$%. But for my 302 I have pulled some trailer and you do have to run higher RPM. But still did ok for a small block. Also It is very fast it can keep up with most small block chevy truck today. not bad for stock truck with a K&N filter.
92 f150 flairSide
K&N filter
MTX 800 watts a channel
Drive fast life is short
so buy Fords

Fish. It must be a <8600 GWv 3/4 ton. There are very weak, expecially if geared wrong. It sounds like that truck is geared low(high rev,low mpg). I wouldn NOT want a 302 if I pulled a heavy trailer alot. I wouldn't/don't pull anything over 7500lbs with my F-150, either of them. My 89 4x4 gets about 14 mpg on the hiway. I agree, My dad used to have a 91 3/4 ton with a 460/5-speed. You could NOT kill that engine. IT would pull 10k without a problem. It got around 12 loaded or not. That was a great engine. It had 240hp and 395ft/lbs.
The 4.2L has 205hp and 250 in torque.
I did some comparing of my engine to engines from dodge and gm of the same size.(305,318)
the 305 had 175hp and 260lbs, and the vortec 305 had 220hp and 280ft/lbs. The 350 had 200hp and 310ft/lbs. And I don't know about Dodge, knowing them, they probably weren't even fuel injected in 1993.

Yes its a <8600gvw truck and he dosent tow big loads with it. Just a 3000# boat. Its got 4.10's and 255/85's. From day 1 its been a hog. It's got 130K and runs good (maybe not). He just lives with it. He uses mobile 1 synthetic oil, 2.5 inch cat-back w/low restriction muffler, and a K&N.
