NEED HELP! 1989 F150 302n change out
Part 1-I'm looking to Change out the Dog of a 302 and change out to a rebuilt 302 out of a mustang by a race car enthusiast with 0 miles, so I know it is a great by for 600. I am wanting to change out to all electronic, I have been informed to use 1996 to 2001 Ford Explorer for the intake and the computer brain is this correct.
Part 2 the Tranny is also a dog always slamming into gear, it has been attempted to be readjusted with no luck would the 1996 thru 2001 be a fit for the tranny also or what tranny would be recommended.

The mustang cam will make the new motor a dog off the line, it's curved for high rev power and you need more low end torque.
You would be better off using your original truck intake and all it's sensors as well as your computer, or you will likely get into runability issues.
The 96 tranny will not work unless you get a stand alone computer and harness for it. And then you don't have a speedo cable port.
Your best bet is to get a tranny that matches what you have. A change means a whole lot of new parts to make it fit usually : trans mount, d/shaft length, speedo cable issues, the list just gets long.
