Sensor Next to MAFS

Hi folks,

RE: 2002 F150 5.4L

What is the sensor to the left of the mass air flow sensor? Circled in yellow in attached pic. All posts on cleaning the the mass air flow sensor do not mention anything about this sensor. Can it be cleaned the same way the mass air flow sensor to the right is cleaned?

(thanks to whoever posted this pic. I just grabbed it from a google search)

Thanks.

That is the IAT (intake air temperature sensor). Yes it can be cleaned the same was as the MAF.

The MAFS is in the 'air box' to the right. I went ahead and took a pic of mine so both items are shown.
Hope this helps.

There is not useful purpose achieved by cleaning an IAT sensor. It's just a thermistor that measures air temp in the intake.

Even if it were caked with dirt, the worst that would happen is that it would be slow to change due to the thermal insulation effect of any contaminant.

IOW, don't bother expecting any result from messing with it.

Thanks everyone.
I had gotten P0171 and P0174 codes with the truck running just fine. I did a real quick and spotty visual check for loose hose connections, etc and then for grins, cleaned the MAFS. The SES light went out on it's own after about 70 miles of driving or so. Then a week and about 300 miles later...problems. I'm starting a new thread for this one.
