after fuel pump install

After putting in a new fuel pump, the mte and fuel gauge are on empty. I've topped off the tank and disconnected the battery leads for about 15 minutes but it didn't help. Will this resolve itself? Btw this is on a 2007 expedition. Tried posting in the expedition forum but found no help.

You probably either left a plug disconnected for the fuel gauge sender or knocked something loose. If you replace the complete assembly, it may be the wrong part or it may be defective.

In any event, there's no valid signal coming from the in-tank sending unit.
