Engine swap into 1997 F150 4.6 Auto Vin 6

I've done lots of readings and research, I just need some confirmation and maybe guidance on my plan to replace my badly knocking 4.6 motor.

I search and read thru many post pertaining to swapping into F150.

I have a 97 4.6 F150 VIN 6 4x2 with a real bad knock, possibly, multiple knocks.

I found 2 motors on craigslist near by, just wanted to confirm that they'll work, and if you'll prefer one over the other.

Deal 1. 1996 Lincoln 4.6 long block $100

Deal 2. 2001 Crown Vic 4.6 complete engine w/ harness, and all accessories. $300

I'm on a tight budget, so my plan is to get cheap as possible, using just the short block or long block, drill any needed sensor holes, and transfer everything from the F150 over then drop in.

Correct me if I'm wrong, from my readings, both of these motor will work for my swap? which will you pick and why?

I appreciate your help.

How much work are you up for?

With just the Lincoln long block, you just swap accessories and oil pan over. The extra step on the Crown Vic engine is swapping out the Crown Vic doodads then swapping F-truck gear in place.

The Lincoln has 210 horsepower and is non-PI up top, so it drops right in. The Crown Vic engine is a PI engine at 220 horsies and will need some tweaking.

So, probably the Lincoln engine will be better for you.

I don't want too much work(working on 4 other Toyota engine swap and Ford is not my area), just bring all the accessories over to the new long/short block and install.

That Lincoln long block was not in good condition so I didn't pick it up.

So all the 4.6 motor that will work, easiest, for the F150 are:
Grand Marquis
Expedition
Navigator
Crown Vic
Lincoln
Mustang

with all being Non-PI. If I'm using PI, then I'll need the exhaust manifolds from a PI F150?

Any more to add to the list? Pick n Pull is having a 50% off starting tomorrow thru Sunday. I'm going to grab a long/short block from there, it'll be about $100-150 after the discount.

A PI engine will need a PI truck intake and exhaust manifolds. A non-PI out of a car will need non-PI manifolds, so you can transfer yours.

I guess I'll stick with non-PI to not have to spend on the manifolds.

I'll go shopping for a long block from the list above.

Thanks
