Pre Trip Check

Hey All,

I have an 06 F-150 FX4 quad cab 5.4 with 102k miles and I am planning a trip where I would pull a 23 ft camping trailor cross country. Prior to pulling a trailor that distance what should I check too make sure I wont have problems on my trip? I have already had all my plugs wires and coils changed so thats not a concern. My truck is stock all the way around and runs great. If this were your truck what would you do...seriously?

Thanks in advance

If I'm doing that I would make sure my differentials and transmission were recently serviced.

Make sure your brakes are up to snuff, you've also got to stop.

Check all hoses and cooling system, serp belt and belt tensioner and idler pullies, tie rods, tires, change fuel filter, brakes, hitch and wiring make sure trailer and truck wiring work properly, trans fluid, rearend fluid, Give the brake lines a good inspection look for excessive rust or small leaks, starter/battery connections, windshield wipers and windshield washer and spare fuses for your trailer/truck lighting.

AND - make sure your trailer wheel bearings are sound and lubricated properly and check the condition of the electric brakes inside the trailer wheel drums. I've had two trailer brakes fall apart, putting pieces of the adjuster into the drums due to the spring on the adjuster breaking. In one case, it caused the trailer wheels to bind when backing, which is how I found about the first failure.

I'd also make sure your trailer battery(s) is/are in good shape. If you are planning to camp anywhere that is without electrical hookups, you do not want to find your battery is dead.
