I know this has probably been covered before and I've searched and I found some stuff about swapping engines, but they kinda went back and forth about it so Im hoping someone could help.
So my truck as been gettin up in miles (210k) and I am trying to think of the future but I have a 2004 5.4 and I think it's the 3v. it's 2004-2008 gen and was wondering what engine would be a direct plug in play if you will without changin everything up. I'm know crazy about the fact I sound like a diesel, and it's just kinda worried me that they sound so ruff. Some of the post says that you can put a 5.4 from a newer one without problems but I haven't really found anyone that's done it to know if it works right or not. But anyways thanks and God bless

 

You could just change the cam phasers and it will fix you diesel sounding problem.

But I believe you can put any 04-10 5.4 3v in there, but 09-10 might take some altering of intake and different wiring.
