4.6l confusion
Aloha,
I have a 2002 super crew 4x4 F-150 and after 286 k the engine is done. I am having a great deal of difficulty finding a 4.6 on Big Island but here's another problem... The 8th digit is a 6 and designates a sohc and after tearing into it 3 times and replacing things I am most positive it's a dual over head cam. also... For this truck there is a 6 bolt flywheel and an 8 bolt flywheel DOHC 4.6 Without pulling the engine first is there any way to pinpoint which engine it is ??? My Vin# is IFTRW08622KC65332 I would like to get an engine on it's way and right after Christmas day I have friends coming over to help pull it. Thank you

You are using the wrong VIN decoder, the "6" means you have a standard 4.6 2 valve SOHC "Windsor" as opposed to a "Romeo" which is VIN W. The flywheel should be an 8 bolt. The F-150 was never built with a DOHC, just the Lincoln Blackwood which had a DOHC 5.4.
The Romeo and Windsor engines are interchangeable as long as you use a complete engine and one new enough to have "PI" heads. There are some minor external differences such as valve covers and front cover, the valve covers are not interchangeable and the front covers have different size bolts. If you wind up with a non-PI engine, you will have to use non-PI manifolds. 2001 and newer out of a F-150 should be PI.
SOHC = 1 cam per bank, DOHC = 2 cams per bank.

Does not state mileage but here is one possibly near you
http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi
At that price it should have under 100k or I would pass on it
I paid 1400 for a 5.4L with 10k miles.
