99 F150 4.6 when to replace coil packs

150k miles.
My father-in-law's truck. He wants a tune up. He says it is running like crap. It is not missing though just down on power. Is it time for 2 new coil packs. I can get oem's on rockauto for 50 a pop. I am going to change the plugs, wires, fuel filter and clean the maf sensor. I don't know anything about the coil packs though. I have an 02 Lightning with the cop's.

The coil packs seldom ever go bad - when they do, you will get a hard miss. Put Motorcraft plugs and wires on it, change the fuel and air filters, clean the MAF, and you could even pull the throttle body and clean it. The EGR passages in the TB elbow like to clog up. If it's down on power it may have plugged cats, a muffler shop can do a backpressure test. Have you checked the OBD2 for codes?

I know there isn't a cel on but I have an xcal2 and I will scan it. I will replace all of the normal stuff and see where we sit.
