03 5.4L Won't Start
03 5.4L 4WD Won't Start. Truck sat parked with a month with a bad hub bearing. Replaced hub bearing, battery, and changed oil. Truck turns over, but won't start. I'm not sure what the problem is. It ran fine when parked a month ago. Truck has 130k miles on it. I really don't know what to look for, and need guidance. Sig needs updated, truck on 6+3 and 37's. I haven't been on here for awhile.

Rained hard all day down here today, couldn't even look at it. Will mess with it again tomorrow. I think I heard somewhere that if its a fuel problem, that sometimes tapping the fuel tank with a rubber mallet, and then attempting to start may help? Does that sound plausible? Will definitely check for pressure, though.
I don't think I threw a code either. Truck never started on new battery. Existing codes in memory, if any, would have been erased when new battery was installed.

Ok, I saw this fuel pressure tester today, and want to know if it will suffice for what I need to do. Please look at it on advance's web site:

How does this thing work? Do I test for pressure at the fuel rails while I have an assistant attempt to start the truck?

Yes, that's what you need. Most parts stores have one in their tool loaner kits. Hook it up to the Schrader valve on the rail and turn the key on. No need to try to start it, you should see between 28 and 40 psi. You can even do a quick and dirty test by hitting the valve with a small screwdriver and see if any fuel sprays out - just like checking a tire.
Can you HEAR the fuel pump run for a couple seconds?

As others said, listen for the fuel pump when the key is turned on. It should run for a few seconds until it builds up pressure. If it does not run, check the power to it including the inertia switch.
If it runs, check the pressure.
Years ago, my son's 89 GT Escort would not start after being parked in the driveway and it turned out to be the inertia switch. Why it operated sitting in the driveway is beyond me but resetting it fixed it.
