Best performance options for 4.6l v8

Hey everybody, this is my first post so please give me feedback on how I can make better posts. I have a 1999 with the 4.6L v8, and I'm looking to improve the performance and reliability and I was wondering what parts you guys would recommend I get,

Thanks,
Matthew Gentle

Best thing you can get is a SCT programmer with custom tunes. Do a Gotts mod to the stock airbox and put a nice exhaust on it.

Or pony up for gears, which would cost only a little more. If you're 2WD, they're totally worth the money, 4x4 not so much.

Alright I would definitely be willing to looking into them, but what exactly do you mean by gears? Is there a specific part you could link me to?
Thanks,

He means install something like 4.10 ratio ring and pinion gears in the rear differential. You probably have a 3.55 ratio now. Gears will make the biggest difference in performance. They will reduce your highway gas mileage though. It could cost up to about $1000 to get a skilled mechanic to do it.

I would Google search "regear differential" and read up on the threads on here. I'd do 4.30 gears if you're 2WD. It essentially "feels" like you're adding power. It will cost around $1000 in total to have done, which will be hard to swallow at once, but is the most effective expenditure for what you're looking for.

Intake - worthless as far as I'm concerned
Exhaust - sounds great, must do mod, but does nothing for power
Tuner with custom tunes - lots of people have them and love them, I have one, I personally didn't notice it doing much

long tube headers are dyno proven to give 15-30 hp thats is the only mod that will definitly give power. A custom tune with the headers would be good. All this stuff costs money and its so easy to sell and buy a truck with a bigger engine.

I also have long tube headers, all mandrel bent exhaust, no cats, and noticed nothing from those either. I installed them at the same time the SCT X3. Not saying they didn't do anything, it just wasn't noticeable for me.

15-30hp isnt a big gain.. You should have seen a minor improvement in MPG. Bottom line is no mater how much you spend you aint gonna see allot of difference. Cheaper and you'll see a difference if you want a fast truck if you just go out and buy one. Way easier to.

Improved MPG? Do you KNOW how great the exhaust sounds with these suckers? I've gotten 8 and 10 mpg on my last 2 fill-ups haha

I know, the point was that you can't stay out of it with long tubes.
