Overdrive light?

I have my fair share of dumb questions, here's another.

The overdrive button the gearshift, when it is light up yellow OFF, does that means its off or on?

I mostly drive in town, (stopping starting frequently). Should the it be light up yellow or no light at all. So confused :S

The only time I turn my OD off (light on) is when I'm towing or I'm comming down a hill and I want the engine to slow the truck. Generally leaving it alone is good.

Light on means that overdrive is cancelled. Under almost all driving conditions, leave the button alone and the light will be off. See the owner's manual for further information.

When the light is on your overdrive is off. I turn my overdrive off around town every time I drive. Overdrive is usually the weak link in most transmissions so I don't see the point of having the trans jump in and out of overdrive when it is not necessary. I save the overdrive for when I need it on the freeway or highway and keep it off in town or towing.
