Engine gets warm when towing?

I know towing in general can make the engine run warmer, but I am wondering if the transmission oil is "wore" out and that is getting warm could cause my coolant to start to get hot. the transferring of heat from the oil going thru the cooler?

What's warm? These engines generally run cool when towing, that's if your referring to a 5.4L (who knows?).

I would say the temp gauge get to about 3/4 and hold there. Yes it is a 5.4.

Mine used to get hot towing too. I have a Gryphon so I get an accurate temp reading and I was finding that towing on hot days and up a long grade that I was flirting with going into limp mode. If you have a stock temp gauge it is more of an idiot light. When it goes to hot is will be too late.

My resolution was to get a two row rad. It made all the difference. The original single row rad wasn't cutting it and there was nothing wrong with it. My truck has low miles for the year and the rad was in great shape. It just didn't have enough cooling capacity. There are a few of us here that have run into this and upgraded the rad.

Correct, if you are talking new from PHP. You can only buy used. SCT is the best option.

edge still makes tuners for(1997-2003) f-150's and I believe they still can be customized. Gotta find someone who does that. They offer real data viewing..
