coolant flush?

Last week i flushed the coolant on my 2006 5.4.

I was planning to add 2 gals of new coolant and then whatever number of gals it would take from distilled water.

I made a mistake of adding first the water and after that the anti freeze, what happened is that i ended up with the degas bottle filled with 100% anti freeze and i guess that the radiator and engine has mostly distilled water only.

My question is, if i drive the truck for a while, the anti freeze on the degas bottle will mix up with the rest of the coolant? or does the fluid in the bottle will remain there without mixing with the rest?

It's all going to mix. The degas bottle is not an overflow like old school, it's under pressure.

Next time if you don't know what volume of coolant to replace, just buy 50/50 premix.
It sounds like if you filled your whole coolant system with water and only used coolant in the degas bottle, your ratio is far off and lacking enough coolant.

Thanks a lot. My previous truck was a 98 Dodge Dakota and it had just the overflow tank so that left me wondering.

I will just drive it for a while then and wait for it to be mixed

IMO is just too expensive. Buying straight coolant and distilled water is cheaper

Did you put in the full 2 gallons of 100% AF?

If so, you'll be okay, but probably closer to a 40% AF and 60% H20..
