Swap a 5.4 3V for a 2V?

Seems like my 2005 5.4 3V needs to be taken apart due to plugged oil passages or clogged oil pump.
Truck idles horribly even after changing all the phasers, chains, guides, tensioners, alternator, plugs, coils, PCM, etc.
Thinking about putting in a 2V to replace the 3V since it seems to be a less problematic engine (no VCT).
After searching a lot of forums, seems like even after a rebuild, the 3V can still have issues either right off the bat or in the ensuing months.
I want to put a turbo in my truck to reach 400-450 hp.
My question is should I go with a 2V or keep the 3V?

Best would be to fit a 4.6 2v out of the same / similar year truck.

5.4 2v vs 5.4 3v : different beast.

Because a 5.4 2v never came in a newer body. It don't have the fancy bells & whistles. The 4.6 is similar.

Stick with a 3v as you will open a can of worms doing the swap.

Used to have a 1992 Crown Vic with a 4.6 2V. The thing was indestructible.
I also have a 2001 F250 with a 5.4 2V with 400,000 km, the motor still runs like new, no rattles, no oil consumption, no loss of power and no VCT

I don't understand, what is the difference with a 4.6 2V compared to a 5.4 2V?

And what bells and whistles are you referring to?

Yeah for sure. But the older 5.4 2v uses a cable TB, had EGR and IAC.

Sounds like too much of a ball ache to swap. People have done it thou.

Ok, just have a bad feeling about these 3 valve engines, read so much crap about them and so many people had big issues with them.

Or is there a way to make the VCT system bulletproof?
