^^^ In 2011, when they ditched it for the 5.0, 3.5 TT, 3.7 and 6.2
Cam phaser noise - here's what it sounds like when it's bad:

The infamous 5.4 3V Plug change sample info:

Lisle tool #65600 broken plug extractor should be purchased beforehand. Carquest, Napa, online stores, etc sell it.
New plug boots (e.g Belden from Napa - $4/each), silicon dielectric grease, hi-temp nickel anti-sieze, MC carb cleaner also needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: IF a 2005 5.4 3V - you NEED to read this and be aware that this can occur at any time - with potentially catastrophic consequences.

BTW - if you have a Traction-Lok ( LS) rear diff, you need to change the fluid if it's not been done for over 30K or 3 years. The friction modifier used ( MC XL-3) is hydrophyllic - absorbs water. Left unattended for longer periods and you risk corrosion in the pumpkin.
Good luck

Just wondering at what mileage did you replace the motor and rebuild the trans? If you can afford a newer truck like mentioned above 08 or newer. Even the new motors have had some failures and issues (around 750,000 f150 sold last year alone). Any motor can have issues and as many 5.4 motors out there (came in multiple vehicles) you are going to hear of problems.
