Running 5.13 gears with 35" tires

I have an 07 4.6L with an 8.8 rear end. Is this going to be a problem? Found an amazing deal on some 513's and seriously considering this. Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I say go for it. I had 4.56s with my 35s and 4.6L and it still struggled a bit. You're speedo will be 20% or more off depending on what gears you started. Mine was about 10% if I remember correct. The 4.88 gears are probably about perfect, but the 4.6L needs all the help it can get so 5.13 should do nicely.
I would recommend a tuner for speed calibration and added power. Did you get the tires yet? Pay attention to the weight. Every pound should is important when deciding on new tires. (most should be LT rated) My toyos were 80 lbs, yet some 35" tire are only 65 lbs. For 4 tires that is a weight difference of 60 lbs of rotational mass, which if I understand correctly, has the same toll as 600 lbs of normal weight. Dang!, Think about it! Good luck on the gears.

Alriiiiiiiiiiiiight thats what i wanted to hear. A friend of a friend has them all boxed up not even taken out of the packaging with a minor install kit and he'll let me have it for $150! So i'm definitely going to jump on this one. I already have some tires too but they're some cheapies.. BFG TKR CORR race tires that i picked up new for only 300 bucks. I know they're not DOT approved, will be loud as sh*t, and will probably wear out pretty quick but for that deal and the look of the tire i couldnt pass it up. I also have a gryphon programmer already put in so all i need to do is figure out how to customize it to these new tires and gears, which i'll most likely just end up having PHP do for me so i can have at least one performance tune. thanks for the input buddy.

No problem man, looks like your truck as a pretty kickass suspension for those tires. I had a little bit of rubbing when I had my 35's but just barely. Looks like you plan on getting some nice BFGs in the future. Love my A/T ko's!!

that's what i was thinking too but i've had so many other people tell me it's going to be overkill for 35's. i'm inbetween on going with these or some 4.88's but if i do that i'm going to have to pay full price for a new set... so torn right now also heard the 5.13's may not fit in my 8.8, know anything about that?

It will be a bit over 10% higher than 4.56 gears. So instead of 2000 rpms, probably closer to 2300 rpms at same speed. I really don't see it being that bad. It will be about the same as having 4.30 gears on stock wheels. 4.6 Punisher has 4.30 gears I believe so see what he says.
Higher RPMs doesn't necessarily mean more fuel burned if the engine doesn't have to strain.

alright i think i may just fork out a little extra cash and get the 4.88's to be safe. now comes the decision on what locker/LS to go with. i was thinking truetrac or the yukon duragrip LS because i've heard pretty good reviews but now i've also been looking at the spartan locker. However, after reading some first hand reviews this is a pretty noisy unit and not sure on the durability. possibly even a lockrite locker. i mainly use my truck as a DD but take it out a lot on weekends and don't do much highway driving at all. Any input on this guys?

Dang that's rough. I assume it was while using the same size tires, right? Tire Size? What gear ratio did you switch from, and how much of a power difference you notice?

yup, everything was the same. i switched from 3.55's and it was alot more responsive while driving for sure.
