A co worker of mine , brought his moms expedition in for plugs. ended up costing him over $3000. plugs broke, and they removed the heads. Grab your ankles.

Maybe they just parked it out back for a while and told you they changed the plugs. The price of the plugs at a dealer would be $135.-$150+ tax just for the plugs! You show as having an '05, 5.4L so there's no way around that price at a dealer. Did they actually install those plugs for $30. labor, or so? Something isn't right about that picture.

The plugs cost $96.00 . The labor was $182.31 . so it was $278.31 . sorry I only remembered the labor cost or close to it. but still No where close to $900. I got all my old plugs back at my request. They all looked great. But I always run 93 octain and some Lucas oil products top end lubricant / fuel conditioner. Plugs were done at 61,857 miles.

That's the thing--I TOLD them it was the 2v 4.6 and they stuck by that price. Some people are just out for their fair share and half of yours, as well...

The first dealer quoted me $22 A PLUG. My truck takes the SP-493, which are $3.49 a piece at O' Reilly's. Even the two-piece SP-515 for the 5.4 was $13.25 a piece at O'Reilly's. $22 per plug...insane.

my dealer wanted $450 + $100 for each broken plug. i'm sure they have some half-wit monkeys back there spinning them out with an impact wrench. i just did it myself yesterday. got 7 out clean, and one broke off. it just happened to be the farthest one back on the driver's side. took 2 hours to get the 7 out, then another 2 for the broken one with the lisle extractor.
total for me was $68 for the plugs. i borrowed the lisle extractor and the ford specific plug wrench from my buddy.
now i get to do it on the expedition. oh joy.

Is the Ford specific plug wrench a necessity? I have a 9/16 and a couple extensions & wobbles, but might actually need a couple more extensions of varying lengths. I think I might have used a few as drifts many moons ago. Does anyone remember any specific combinations that has worked like a charm?
