I can only imagine the comments I would hear otherwise.
Did they add this just for you Blue?

I am in the market for a new F150 also, have been leaning toward the 5.0 and this thread was quite helpful.

Not being a person who works on engines or knows much about them, i just assumed the v8 was a simpler design and any repairs down the road with the EB could cost me substantially more.

Here's the good thing about the 5.0 and there's really no way around this (not that you would want to get around it)...the 5.0 vs EB debate may live on and on for sometime to come, but at the end of the day, the 5.0 is still a significant upgrade to the 5.4 the vast majority of guy are trading in...period! You really can't go wrong.

The only thing in the EB that's more complicated is the turbo system. Both engines have the TI-VCT system. If you are looking for the simplest engine, get a 6.2.

I ment the turbos, i was generalizing when i siad more complicated.

All i can afford is an XLT, it is a work truck afterall. I will look into the 6.2, not sure its an option in the XLT though.

I would probably end up with the 5.0 over the ecoboost as well mainly due to the cost difference. Also, the aftermarket for the 5.0 should be plentiful.

I really like my 5.0 and it has plenty of power and mileage isn't too far off from the EB. I was pulling out into traffic today and about the time I was comitted, I realized the car coming down the road was coming too fast. I floored the F150 and I couldn't believe it... it smoked the tires in a straight line... I am coming from a 4.2L V6 so this impressed me... I got up to speed very quickly. :-) Nice to know it is there if needed... getting around 16MPG average around town and about 19-20 on the highway at 70MPH. It goes up to 21 MPG if I drop to 65. I do drive conservativle to get that mileage. What really kills the mileage is setting at traffic lights...

I recently test drove both of them last week. I did like the idea of the EB. But the salesman told me that him as a 63 year old man driving does not get better mileage out of the EB then he does the 5.0. I think my decision on the 5.0 was the power and sound. But Im kind of old school and believe trucks should have a V8 also. I think the EB is a great idea. Just wasn't worth the cost to me. So far with 500 miles, Im still happy that I got the 5.0. Much better than my old 5.4.

Is $1,200 really a decision making factor on a $35,000+ purchase??

Someday I'll get a truck with the 5.0. Wont be untill I can get a used one for a decent price. My 99 is in great shape I could get another 150,000 miles out of it I think. 10 years. I'll get the 5.0 then.

By the way, the canisters are working stellar, there is NO oil in the return tubes and I drain around 1 tablespoon from one of the canisters a month.

More than that actually when you factor in trim level required for certain options. I would want to buy an STX 4x4 with 3.73 and would be forced to get at minimum an XLT long bed that makes it $4k more. I don't like long beds either so that would then require at minimum a lariat or FX4 which would then be roughly $10k more. Give me ecoboost in an STX with that $1200 increase and yea I would consider one. Otherwise, it just is not worth it to me. I could get an XLT F250 with a 6.2L for equal if not less cost than an Eco-Boost equipped F150 @ the Lariat/FX4 level. I just don't see the value in Eco-Boost give the requirements to get it.
